Expanding Grid Optimisation Across 14 GSPs
Silicon Grid is excited to announce that it has received an order to deploy Technical Limits functionality across 14 Grid Supply Points (GSPs) for a large UK DNO. This major expansion underscores Silicon Grid’s leadership in real-time grid optimisation and its commitment to supporting faster and more flexible renewable energy integration.
Enhancing Grid Flexibility with Technical Limits
The Technical Limits framework is a key enabler of smarter, faster, and more cost-effective grid connections for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). Instead of waiting for expensive and time-consuming network reinforcements, DERs can now connect within predefined GSP capacity thresholds, ensuring they operate within safe limits while maximising grid utilisation.
Key benefits of Technical Limits deployment include:✔ Faster DER connections – Reducing connection delays for renewable projects.✔ Maximised grid efficiency – Optimising existing infrastructure before reinforcement.✔ Enhanced system security – Preventing network overloads through real-time dynamic control.✔ Reduced curtailment – Enabling DERs to operate optimally without unnecessary constraints.
Upgraded Platform with Arbitration Functions for Greater Flexibility
As part of this deployment, Silicon Grid’s Constellation platform has been upgraded to include advanced arbitration functions. These new capabilities allow DERs to participate in multiple control and market schemes simultaneously, unlocking new revenue opportunities while ensuring that network constraints are always respected.
This means that:
✔ DERs can switch dynamically between services without conflict.
✔ Operators have greater flexibility in managing energy resources.
✔ Multiple market interactions are enabled, increasing commercial opportunities for asset owners.
Delivered in Collaboration with ZIV
This project will be delivered in partnership with ZIV, leveraging the ZIV TwinGrid solution powered by Silicon Grid’s Constellation. The Constellation optimisation engine will provide real-time setpoints to the client’s Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), enabling precise and automated network control.
With this latest deployment, Silicon Grid and ZIV are pioneering a new era of intelligent grid management, ensuring that DNOs can efficiently integrate more renewables, optimise its network, and drive the transition towards a smarter, more flexible energy system.
