Project Update - ANM Deployment goes live at Another UK GSP

Updated: Mar 18

Advancing Grid Optimization with Real-Time Demand Response

Chichester Grid Supply Point (GSP) plays a critical role in ensuring a stable and efficient electricity supply, supporting both renewable energy growth and grid reliability. As more Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and flexible demand assets are connected, optimizing their operation in real time is essential for maintaining network stability, reducing curtailment, and maximizing clean energy utilization.

To meet these challenges, The Client, in collaboration with ZIV UK Ltd. and Silicon Grid, has deployed an advanced centralized optimization engine within the Constellation ANM platform, delivered as part of ZIV’s Twin Grid Platform. This solution provides real-time grid balancing, enhances operational flexibility, and unlocks new opportunities for demand-side response, marking a significant milestone in UK energy management.

Innovative Demand Response Integration – A UK First in ANM

For the first time in the UK, the Chichester GSP deployment integrates a large industrial demand response customer into an Active Network Management (ANM) system. This breakthrough allows large electricity consumers to actively participate in real-time network balancing, providing a dynamic solution for managing grid constraints.

Key benefits of integrating real-time demand response into ANM include:

Enhanced Grid Flexibility – Demand-side resources can be adjusted dynamically to alleviate network constraints.

Reduced Curtailment of Renewables – Large demand customers can absorb excess renewable generation, reducing the need for curtailment.

Increased Operational Efficiency – The system optimizes the use of both generation and demand, reducing reliance on expensive network reinforcements.

Lower Grid Balancing Costs – Demand response participation reduces the need for costly last-minute interventions from the system operator.✔ Greater Energy Resilience – By responding to network constraints in real time, large industrial customers support overall grid stability.

Optimizing Chichester GSP for Maximum Efficiency

The Constellation Platform, delivers real-time network-wide control and optimization, ensuring:

Continuous monitoring and balancing of supply and demand to maintain network security.

Optimized DER and demand response operating positions, maximizing renewable energy integration.

Seamless integration with The Client’s ADMS system, coordinating all controllable network devices.

Advanced automation of demand-side flexibility, providing an additional tool for system operators.

New Functional Upgrades: Smarter Grid Control with Demand Response

As part of this deployment, the Constellation platform has been upgraded to support automated demand response in real-time ANM control. This enhancement significantly increases operational efficiency and flexibility, allowing large consumers to contribute to grid stability dynamically.

Automated dispatch of industrial demand response, reducing strain on the network.

Coordinated control of generation and demand, ensuring optimal grid performance.

Integration of demand-side flexibility into existing ANM schemes, unlocking new grid-balancing capabilities.

A Scalable Model for Future Grid Management

By deploying ZIV’s Twin Grid Platform powered by Silicon Grid’s Constellation technology, The Client is pioneering a new era of real-time grid management. The Chichester GSP project represents a major advancement in integrating demand-side flexibility within ANM systems, increasing renewable energy integration, and delivering a more efficient, cost-effective, and resilient power network.

This project sets a new standard for flexible grid operation, demonstrating how demand-side response and renewable generation can work together to enhance grid stability and accelerate the energy transition. With advanced automation, real-time optimization, and enhanced flexibility, Silicon Grid and ZIV continue to drive the future of smart grid solutions, ensuring a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable energy system.
